Miley Cyrus, 16, and Zac Efron, 21, are rumoured to be in talks to remake Gidget.
Cyrus, the face of Hannah Montana, will play the role of the California naif made indelible on screen and TV by Sandra Dee and Sally Field.
Like her 1960s predecessor, the new Gidget will discover surfing - and perhaps even her great love Moondoggie, played in all three films by teen idol James Darren.
Brittany Show, 23, has been approached to play alongside Efron and Cyrus. She appeared with Efron and John Travolta in Hairspray. They are not yet signed for the movie.
